Creators Meet TAKAOKA

Creators Meet TAKAOKA

In Toyama Prefecture, artisans flourished under the Buddhist temples of the Jodo Shinshu sect and the Maeda clan, who were the feudal lords of the Kaga domain. The techniques of those artisans have been handed down. Formerly, Muneyoshi Yanagi, founder of the folk craft movement, stayed in Nanto, Toyama Prefecture. He expressed the land quality created together by nature and man as “Dotoku (virtue of soil)."
Artisans involved in the traditional handicrafts of Takaoka City and creators from urban areas have cooperated and worked hard at creating new value, such as by creating products and artworks. Through such cooperation and work, "Creators Meet TAKAOKA" began as a project to widely transmit the charms of Takaoka and Takaoka's traditional handicrafts.
An event was held at Shibuya Hikarie that searched for the new forms of craftsmanship through the techniques and secrets of the artisans of Takaoka City in Toyama Prefecture. I was in charge of the key visuals of the event and the art direction at the venue, for which I used paper. I composed the key visuals and venue art using the colors white, black, and red only and expressed the artisan-like craftsmanship and spiritual climate of Toyama. I blended powerfully steady straight lines and soft curves and represented the collaboration of the artisans and creators.
